Differences between scents and poppers

Poppers is a slang expression for a group of substances belonging to nitrous acid´s esters family - nitrites.
The nitrites contain a nitrite ion - O-N=O, which gives the substances high flammability,
low boiling point and water insolubility.
These properties predispose the nitrites to be used as liquid fire-lighters,
leather cleaners and also as carrier components of room scents.
According to a discovery made a quarter of century ago, to mention a plum,
a nitrite ion acts as a neuron carrier with mainly local effects on vessel dilatation.
Vessel broadening medicaments mostly contain a nitro group (nitroglycerine, trolnitrate).
Amylnitrite is no longer used in medicine as new medicaments offer much
more predictable and longer effects.
